Intentional Fellowship Safety

Meeting safely, protecting yourself, and never sending money.

Last updated September 19, 2026Effective September 19, 2026

Intentional Fellowship is where adults on The Way can meet with marriage-mindedness in view: friendship first, honest introductions, courtship, and — God willing — a life together. It is also where you are most exposed. Please read this before you talk to anyone here. Intentional Fellowship is not available in every release of The Way; this guidance applies whenever it is available to you.

Start here

Protect your personal information

Take your time. There is no rush, and someone worth knowing will not mind waiting. Do not share early:

Stay in the app at first. Messaging inside The Way keeps report, block, and mute within reach. Someone pushing hard to move to another app or a phone number in the first few messages is a pattern worth noticing.

Look at your photos before you post them. Images can show a house number, a street sign, a parking permit, a church bulletin, a name badge.

Never send money

This is the one rule we would ask you to hold absolutely. No one you meet on The Way has a legitimate reason to ask you for money. Not for a plane ticket, not for a family emergency, not for a customs fee, not for medical bills, not for an investment “opportunity”, not for a church project, not to prove you care.

Be especially wary of:

If someone asks you for money: stop, send nothing, screenshot the conversation, block them, and report them. You will not be in trouble, and you are almost certainly not the first person they approached.

Meeting in person

When you are ready to meet, meet carefully. This is normal, not paranoid, and anyone worth meeting will respect it.

Consider making the first meeting a group setting — a church event, a Bible study, a fellowship gathering. It takes the pressure off and puts other people around you.

Signs to take seriously

None of these on its own proves bad intent. Several together deserve real caution.

If someone threatens to share intimate images of you, do not pay them. Save the evidence, report them here, and report it to law enforcement.

Blocking and reporting

Both are available from every screen where you can see a person: their profile, an introduction request, and every conversation.

Blocking is immediate and silent. The person you block is never told. They can no longer message you or send requests, they lose access to your profile and your Intentional Fellowship profile, pending introductions between you are cancelled, and they disappear from your discovery and suggestions. You do not owe anyone a warning or a goodbye.

Reporting is confidential. The person reported never learns who reported them. Reports from Intentional Fellowship are treated as high priority and reviewed by a person. Someone with repeated substantiated reports loses access to Intentional Fellowship before any other penalty applies.

You do not have to choose. Reporting never requires blocking, and blocking never closes an open report. Do both if you want to.

You can also pause your visibility, hide from specific people, hide from members of particular churches or groups, or leave Intentional Fellowship entirely. All of these take effect immediately.

If you are in danger

In-app reporting is not an emergency service. It does not contact police, medical services, or a crisis line.

If you are in immediate danger, or you believe someone else is, contact your local emergency services first. Then, when you are safe, report it to us at support@thewaychrist.com so we can act on the account and preserve evidence.

If you have been harmed, please consider reaching out to a local support service, your church leadership, or someone you trust. What happened is not your fault.

What we do, and what we cannot do

We do: require 18+ and check it server-side; keep participation private by default; prioritise Intentional Fellowship reports; give you block, report, mute, and leave everywhere; act on substantiated reports with human review; preserve evidence when something is reported.

We do not: verify identity, run background or criminal record checks, monitor conversations, guarantee that anyone is who they say they are, or guarantee that any relationship formed here will be safe or successful.

Your judgement is the most important safeguard in this feature. Please use it, and never let anyone talk you out of it.
